Groups Protest APS Flip Flop on Clean Energy and Coal

Posted on

Today, representatives from Sierra Club – Grand Canyon Chapter, Chispa Arizona,
Mi Familia en Acción, Vote Solar, AZ AANHPI Advocates, Rural Arizona Engagement, Poder
Latinx, Arizona Interfaith Power and Light, Arizona Youth Climate Coalition, Arizona Association
of Retired Americans, and other clean energy advocates, protested outside the Arizona Public
Service (APS) headquarters. The focus was on the recent APS announcement that it was
abandoning its previous clean energy commitments, its commitment to achieve a
zero-carbon system by 2050, and to retire its last coal plant in 2031. APS has decided to run
the dirty and expensive Four Corners Power Plant until 2038, despite the enormous costs to
ratepayers and the excessive pollution from the plant.
